  • What do you know about @shoe_waste ?

Last week our editor Tanita Gray toted through the hail and rain to speak to a group of creatives @thesovco
about the importance of shoe waste, fashion waste build up and the harsh truths we don't want to hear. Fast fashion, slow fashion, luxury, etc. Are all the contributors.

The fashion industry waste problem is caused by us creative people and we need to think about how we will live in the future. It has to be part of our lifestyle. And means not everyone can be a "designer". We think of being a designer as outward esthetics only. We need to change that.

"Designers are problem solvers. We shouldn't be adding to the problem. Be innovative in a new creative way."

👉🏾You can be the person who discovers a new manufacturing process, use of a new material or bring innovation in a way that we were never taught. Develop a new approach to design amd create solutions.

We only have this planet to live on. Lets not fill it with trash we don't need.
  • @bet @bethertv @betplus (should be BET Publications) for this post as a reminder that fashion did not happen yesterday or during a fashion show. It happened thousands of years ago by colored hands and black creativity and brown influence. This created the Black fashion experience that was stolen and exploited to bolster as proof of concept for European "civilized behavior".

The major problem here is that we are actually not celebrating the accomplishments. We are still harboring tension from trauma, not being paid dues, and the overall audacity of the fashion industry itself as it continues to undermine the creators. From selfcare, beauty, hygiene, costume, culture, earthcare, occasion, function, form, style and beyond. That is historically the contributions Black people gave the world. For FREE.

So what would the world look like without Black people?

A dirty hot mess.

  • So it seems that creatives continue to copy/paste old models and pass off as new.

@nike and @drake_offflclal @officialnocta will release a pair of NIKE Fins redone with NOCTA branding. These fins will also be for water sport.

Disclaimer: Do NOT attempt to wear on the street. For those who are not sure about the difference between a "slide" and these "fins" - don't worry, the spring break videos of people tripping and falling over what they think are their new "slides" will go viral just in time to regroup for summer vacations.

✅️ Did we just predict the drop time???

These NIKE x NOCTAs are not slides. They are for swimming.

Nike has yet to confirm the release date of NOCTA's aquatic drop. Pricing also remains unclear. You can get a pair of NIKE Fins for around $40.
  • If @wayzforlife can do it, so can you!

"We design, source and produce locally. All the shoe components are sourced and production takes place within a 70kms radius in Porto, Portugal.

Being close to our producers and suppliers is a big advantage because we can visit them often and build lasting relationships, work hand-in-hand, test new designs, materials and improve the quality of our sneakers.

Besides, it drastically reduces the ecological footprint of our products because we don't need to make every shoe component travel the world several times, before our sneakers get to your feet."
